Serve as a member of the Communications and Marketing team to build awareness and enhance the image of Touro College in the Jewish and general communities, in addition to the academic community. Research, develop, write and edit stories for local, ethnic and national press, as well as customized brochures for various schools and programs, and other communication materials that achieve departmental and college goals.


Duties includes the following but not limited to:

Develops relationships with clients that include deans and faculty to discover interesting story ideas about faculty, students and interesting initiatives Writes compelling stories about students, faculty, and deans in the four undergraduate schools Edits copy written by faculty and students revising, rewriting, and reorganizing for clarity, comprehension, use of language, sequence of thought, logic, flow, consistency, and effectiveness Provides creative input on marketing, publication projects as well as the web. Researches and prepares creative briefs, collaborates on strategy and web content, and maintains communication with clients Works proactively with the Executive Director to identify new opportunities in support of comprehensive and consistent brand strategy Researches, gathers, and provides background information and campaign deliverables as needed Directs and supports multiple projects concurrently and efficiently through the use of project management best practices to ensure goals, deadlines, maintaining consistent quality in all materials


Education, Preparation, and Training

Bachelor’s degree, Master’s preferred, in Journalism, Public Relations, Mass Communications, English, Marketing, or related fields Public Relations experience preferred


Strong story-telling and writing skills

Creative thinker, passionate about content, determined to seek out the story Strong headline writing skills Strong interviewing skills – you know the right questions to ask Good editor, can edit copy to match a certain style or voice Excellent project management and strong interpersonal skills Can work independently and collaborate with a team Comfortable/willing to learn CMS (content management system) to update and upload content Knowledge of/integration with social media a plus Contributes to editing guidelines for internal/external editors Ability to work on simultaneous projects Willingness to “dig in” and do the work required to get great content Excellent grammar, spelling and English usage Ability to interact with people from diverse backgrounds

Able to lift up to 5 lbs.

Computer Skills

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Internet Research
