Part-Time Robotics Coach

Job Description

Gann Academy’s Robotics Coach oversees the four teams in our FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) robotics program. Our robotics program is a very active part of our school, with over 15% of our students involved. Gann Academy faculty and coaches are active members of the school community who are committed to collaborating and growing in their teaching practice, supporting diverse learners in the classroom, connecting with students outside the classroom, supporting other faculty and staff members, and who can self-reflect on their own practice. Commitment to professional development, growth, and collaboration are imperative to be a successful member of the Gann faculty.

Candidates will ideally be available to start as soon as October 1, 2021 and will run until February 28, 2022.

This position is an in-person, exempt, part-time, seasonal position and the pay rate is around $10,000 for the season (depending on the actual start date). The work schedule would generally be Monday – Thursday 3:45pm to 5:00 and approximately one Sunday per month for competitions.

Your responsibilities will include the following:

  • Direct FTC team meetings (Monday through Thursday, 3:45-5:00
  • Prepare FTC team equipment for competitions and coach the team at competitions (approximately one Sunday per month)
  • Mentor students to grow their interest in science careers
  • Track the team budget
  • Guide students to maintain competition deadlines and educate students in the principals of good sportsmanship and ethical behavior
  • Stay in close communication with the Director of STEAM
  • Keep records, prepare, and filing reports, grades, and comments as needed/required and directed by the Director of STEAM

  • A strong knowledge of team dynamics and communication
  • FTC competitions and robotics
  • Java programming
  • The ability to work collaboratively with our student leaders and our Computing, Design & Fabrication faculty.
  • Experience using 3D printers for parts fabrication
