The Public Space Judaism Coordinator should have intimate knowledge of the local Jewish community. This is a part-time position (20hrs/wk) with the potential to later become full-time.

Responsibilities of the JOI Public Space Judaism Coordinator will include:

Assist local institutional partners in implementing Public Space Judaism events that provide informal, experiential Jewish education and initiate relationships with newcomers;

Recruit and build partnerships with like-minded institutions by developing new marketing materials and recruitment strategies informed by outreach best practices;

Ensure that partner institutions nurture new relationships through personalized follow-up and invitations to next-step programs relevant to their specific needs;

Implement new Public Space Judaism programs around major Jewish holidays by helping JOI and partnering organizations develop and implement new ideas; modifying existing programs to incorporate outreach best practices; and/or operate one of the many field-tested JOI programs that offer fully-articulated curricula and facilitator materials;

Maintain current records regarding communication with program operators and track their progress implementing Public Space Judaism and other outreach programs;

Communicate regularly with JOI staff and partnering organizations.

Requirements for the JOI Public Space Judaism Coordinator:

Excellent communications and interpersonal skills;

Outgoing personality and willingness to reach out individually over phone and email, in person, in public presentations, etc.;

Comfortable nurturing institutional and individual professional relationships using JOI best practices;

Knowledge of, passion for, and/or a personal connection to the relevant issues of Jewish communal life;

A non-judgmental approach toward the wide variety of Jewish identity expression and practice, and a sensitivity to Jewish communal diversity including a welcoming attitude toward intermarried families, GLBT, multiracial/Jews of color, individuals with physical and/or intellectual disabilities, economic challenges, etc.

Experience developing programs a plus;

Self-motivated with a willingness to take initiative;

Strong organizational skills and very detail oriented;

Experience using social media;

Ability both to work from home and to travel throughout the Chicago metropolitan region for work.

Ability to come to New York for a week of initial training.
