Full-Time Program Officer

Job Description

Position Functions: Continuously scans and studies the field of education of Jewish youth in the United States to identify – in consultation with the Foundation’s professional team – promising grant opportunities Works with Foundation colleagues in assisting prospective grantees throughout the Foundation’s grant making process After initial training, actively manages a portfolio of grants Major Responsibilities: Investigates potential grantees: at the discretion of his/her supervisor, initiates dialogue, conducts interviews and site visits, and collects all relevant information necessary for a thorough review of grant proposals Evaluates invited grant requests under the direction of a supervisor Communicates with assigned organizations on a timely and effective basis, seeking and providing information necessary to support the efficacy and effectiveness of the Foundation’s philanthropy Monitors progress and performance of those organizations (within the professional’s

portfolio) receiving grants from the FoundationPeriodically reviews status of grantee implementation efforts to ensure consistency with provisions of the grant award Recommends appropriate action to a supervisor Works to increase effectiveness in grant analysis and evaluation Assists processing of Director-recommended discretionary grants, as appropriate Contributes to preparation for all Board meetings Performs administrative tasks essential to carrying out work Performance Criteria: Demonstrates knowledge of and commitment to the Foundation’s mission, vision, and its strategic grant making priorities Evidences ability to effectively assess appropriateness of grant inquiries Demonstrates responsibility and dependability in job performance Performs work assignments with a demonstrated sense of professionalism and pursuit of quality and excellence Effective liaison between grantees and Executive Director Accepts additional responsibilities, including special projects, as necessary Qualifications & Experience: Education: Master’s Degree preferred

Experience: Good working knowledge of organized Jewish community Awareness of new and ongoing forms and forums of Jewish communal expression, with experience in some preferable Clear trajectory of life-long Jewish learning Experience in non-profit sector Strong analytical skills essential Candidate must have excellent communication skills – both written and oral Proficient in use of office technologies Training Provided: Orientation to Foundation Microedge GIFTS software Professional Development:

Annual and ongoing opportunities provided as related to primary functions and responsibilities relevant to the professional’s Foundation assignments
