Full-Time Northeast Regional Director

Job Description


NEXT: A Division of the Birthright Israel Foundation connects Birthright Israel trip alumni and their peers with meaningful Jewish living and learning opportunities nationally, locally and in Israel.


We are seeking a Northeast Regional Director. Our regional directors are recognized as thought-leaders, network weavers, and advocates in the field of Young Jewish Adult engagement. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of an innovative, entrepreneurial team, to develop and implement pilot initiatives in the Northeast, and to grow a local, regional, and national network of leaders in young adult engagement. This position reports to the CEO and is based in our New York office.


Essential Functions:


Serve as the central NEXT representative for the Northeast, serving as both a clearinghouse of and a lightning rod for Jewish resources for Birthright Israel alumni, their peers, and the professionals and volunteers who work with them.

Provide consulting services to communities interested in cutting-edge strategies for outreach to young Jewish adults and Birthright Israel follow-up.

Develop a network of professionals and volunteers who are passionate about programming for and outreach to this demographic.

Initiate periodic gatherings of engagement professionals to share best practices, foster cross-organizational collaborations, and raise the profile of the field.

Design and implement pilot initiatives to catalyze new programmatic activities for Birthright Israel participants.

Represent NEXT at local and regional planning activities.

Write for, speak at, and attend conferences that advance the field of young adult engagement.

Connect the NEXT national office with regional operations to effect efficient collaboration on national initiatives, data-gathering, and evaluation.

Coordinate/collaborate with appropriate Birthright Israel Foundation and Taglit staff.

Essential Competencies, Knowledge, and Skills:


Dedication, excitement, and passion for NEXT’s mission.

Strong Jewish background and familiarity with organizations doing Young Jewish Adult engagement.

Experience in Israel, knowledge of Birthright Israel and a background in informal Jewish education.

Demonstrated ability to consult with organizations and communities.

Ability to generate ideas and execute on them. Driven to make things happen on the ground. Track record of intra- or entrepreneurialism.

Skilled coalition/partnership builder; ability to work cross-organizationally with a diverse coalition of partners.

Experienced working with, listening to, and motivating Young Jewish Adults.

Recognized as the kind of leader that can work across constituencies to motivate action and collaboration.

Thrives in a learning organization that believes in constant evolution.

Position Requirements:


7 years relevant experience.

Bachelor’s degree required; MA/MBA preferred.

Extensive travel throughout the Northeast required.
