Full-Time Mickey Fried Nursery School Director

Job Description

The director for the Mickey Fried Nursery School of the Oheb Shalom Congregation is a visionary leader who provides an enriching educational experience for all students. In order to provide a rich and robust play based learning environment, it is essential for the director to be proactive in revising and reinventing the school’s curriculum.

Strong leadership skills, extensive experience in early childhood education as well as Jewish education, expertise in both the establishment and implementation of developmentally appropriate curriculum, and strong organizational and planning skills are required.

The director will report to the Nursery School Board and VP of Education and be part of the synagogue staff team, They need to be a champion for the synagogue, helping to identify and implement opportunities that will benefit both the school and the synagogue.

The director should embody the spirit of the school’s mission statement:

“The Mickey Fried Nursery School provides a safe, nurturing and educational environment for our young learners. Our goals are to foster a love of learning, to respect individuality, to teach the importance of community service, to promote a curiosity of foreign language through the teaching of Hebrew, and to ensure academic and social kindergarten readiness. Our innovative and creative teaching staff utilize the latest early childhood development techniques, with an emphasis on the arts and sustainability to achieve these goals. We offer flexible hours to accommodate various busy family schedules. We foster long-lasting friendships for our children and parents alike. We are more than a preschool; we are a community that continues to teach and guide our children long after they graduate.”

Specifics of the position’s primary responsibilities:

Program and Curriculum
a. Organizes the school’s Jewish educational philosophy and goals to ensure it is differentiated amongst its competitors.
b. Plans and continuously (on a monthly basis) refines yearly school calendar
c. Oversees the summer camp program and bridges program (weeks between school and camp); explore other opportunities to enhance the school’s offerings (e.g., extended day)

Staff Management
a. Recruits, hires and retains best-in-class faculty and substitute teachers that support the school’s philosophy
b. Supervises and evaluates teacher performance regularly including a yearly formal staff evaluation

General Communication
a. Must have strong written and verbal communication skills including effective listening and a warm, friendly and empathetic personality
b. Maintains good working relationships with the preschool board, staff, clergy and parents

Relationship with the Synagogue
a) Works closely with the Zeman (Hebrew School) director on identifying graduating 4’s for Zeman and collaborate on transition plans
b) Collaborates with the synagogue staff to identify opportunities for young family engagement

Marketing and Promotional Duties
a) Promotes school enrollment through advertising, public relations, social media and school tours with prospective families.
b) Promotes synagogue activities to the nursery school community and encourages participation.

Administrative Duties
a. Must meet any and all State licensing requirements for the school
b. Creates, presents and manages the school budget
