Job Description

The Jewish Outreach Institute (JOI) is the only national, independent non-profit organization dedicated to helping unaffiliated intermarried families create Jewish households and helping the Jewish community better welcome such families.

JOI’s work involves four “cornerstones” of activities:

· Advocating for a more inclusive community; · Training Jewish communal professionals in outreach and inclusion; · Research on Jewish institutions throughout North America, as well as intermarriage and Jewish identity; · Outreach programming that directly reaches underserved populations.

JOI is a small and growing office, with a strong teamwork ethic. The JOI Program Officer will be expected to focus attention to growing and developing JOI’s Big Tent Judaism initiatives, including creative outreach programming for holidays and specific underserved populations, as well as programs for Jewish communal professionals and volunteer leaders to help them , advocate for inclusive Jewish communities and reach unengaged Jews.

Responsibilities of the JOI Program Officer might include:

· Recruit communities to implement existing national programs by developing new marketing materials and recruitment strategies; · Recruit participants for JOI’s various programmatic listserves, using Jewish community resources and other networks; · Develop new content and resources for JOI’s various program websites; · Develop and pilot new programs, as well as curriculum sessions for existing programs; · Guide and support current and potential Empowering Ruth and For the Men program operators from communities throughout North America through phone and email consultations; · Maintain current records regarding communication with program operators and track their progress implementing Public Space Judaism and other outreach programs; · Evaluate the impact of new curriculum sessions and programs,; · Communicate with program participants; · Manage and track national programmatic budgets, as well as budgets for funded program operators; · Communicate with funders about course progress and impact, through reports and other written materials; · Assist in planning and implementing JOI’s conferences for Jewish professionals and volunteer leaders serving unaffiliated and intermarried families; Requirements for the JOI Program Officer:

· Excellent writing and interpersonal skills; · Experience developing curriculum; · Willingness to take initiative; · Strong organizational skills and very detail oriented; · Knowledge of—and/or a personal connection to—the relevant issues of Jewish communal life; · Bachelors degree, plus two years of relevant experience; · Jewish communal experience is a strong plus, as is prior presentation experience and familiarity with Microsoft Access and WordPress; · Experience using social media; · Ability to occasionally travel for work.
