Job Description

The Jewish Academy of Orlando (JAO) is a community day school that has proudly been serving Jewish children in Central Florida for 35 years.

Our current enrollment consists of 140 students in grades kindergarten through eight. The mission of the JAO is to provide academic excellence within a culture of Jewish values. Our goal is to produce well-educated and self confident students with a strong Jewish identity.


In support of our mission, we are committed to the highest standards of secular education utilizing the latest technology and teaching methods. The JAO features a differentiated learning environment in which each child’s full potential is maximized. Our curriculum is infused with Jewish values and a comprehensive Judaic education program emphasizing Hebrew, a love of Israel, Tefilah, and the teachings of the Torah. We are seeking to replace our retiring Head of School.


The Head of School is the primary representative of JAO to the Central Florida Jewish Community, working closely with teachers, parents, community members, and other stakeholders. The Head of School provides strategic vision, leadership, and managerial oversight for the school.


The Head of School will be responsible for providing academic and administrative leadership in four important areas:


Oversee all aspects of educational experience, in partnership with parents and staff, to ensure that JAO achieves it mission.

Spearhead the growth and retention of the student body.

Provide personnel and financial management including establishing and achieving a balanced budget.

Achieve fundraising goals in coordination with the Board of Directors.




Masters degree or equivalent and a background in education Experience in supervising and management of faculty and staff Extensive experience in fiscal management Excellent oral, written, and public relations skills Proven track record in non profit fundraising Experience in stewardship of major donors Ability to work with the community to promote the school Ability to sustain a diverse community of students, teachers, parents, and staff


Desirable qualifications:


Graduate training beyond a master’s degree Leadership experience in a school of academic excellence Knowledge of basic Hebrew and Jewish studies
