Part-Time Grant Writer

Job Description

The Noguchi Museum seeks a part-time, experienced grant writer to develop, prepare and submit grant proposals, funding requests, and reports to foundation, government agencies, elected officials and corporate sources.  The grant writer reports to and works with the Director of Development and other museum staff to design proposals for renewed, new, and increased support for exhibitions, conservation, archives, educational initiatives, public programs, general operations,  and capital projects at the Museum.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop, prepare, and submit detailed and competitive written grant proposals and applications that are aligned with and support the Museum’s mission and initiatives

• Facilitate the development of fundable grant proposals and project budgets in collaboration with the Director of Development and senior staff members

• Maintain grant reporting and ongoing donor stewardship, including preparation of reports, budgets, progress reports, and final reports

• In collaboration with the Director of Development, initiate relationships with new prospective funders, write letters of inquiry, and solicitation letters

• Maintain a central grants calendar and continuously update donor files

• Monitor donor acknowledgment in credit lines

• Gather support documentation for applications and for final reports

• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively via oral and written means, writing persuasive grant proposals.

Qualifications:

• Three – five years of museum or visual arts and/or design organization fundraising experience, with an emphasis on grant writing and reporting, donor relations, and proposal development

• Demonstrate success in writing and submitting grants

• Ability to meet multiple deadlines and in a collaborative manner with museum staff

• Must be able to represent the museum in a professional manner with colleagues and funders

• Professional experience in the arts, cultural, and/or educational organizations preferred

• Possession of a bachelors degree (or substantial coursework) in art history, art education, studio art, architecture, design or closely related field preferred

• Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills; attention to detail, spelling, punctuation, and grammar, etc.

• Ability to present information concisely and effectively, both verbally and in writing

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook

Starting Date: Immediate

Schedule: Part-time, two days per week

Compensation: Commensurate with experience
