Full-Time Family Support Partner

Overview:

The Family Support Partner builds partnerships with parents and professionals. Committed to promoting a non-judgmental and respectful attitude with regard to families. Provide ongoing support services to clients and families to assist in meeting their individual needs. Perform out of office family support services and administrative tasks in accordance with agency procedures.

Responsibilities:

Home care training, family services (family support) involve face-to-face interactions with family member(s) directed toward restoration, enhancement, and maintenance of family functioning therefore increasing the family’s ability to effectively interact and care for the person in the home and community. May involve support activities such as assisting the family in adjusting to the members disability, developing skills to effectively interact and/or manage the member, understanding the causes and treatment of behavioral health issues, understanding and effectively utilizing the system, and planning long term care for the member and family. Teach family to advocate on behalf of their respective family member.

Teaching independent living, social, and communication skills to persons and/or their families in order to maximize the person’s ability to live and participate in the community and to function independently. Includes self-care, household management, social decorum, same and opposite-sex friendships, avoidance of exploitation, budgeting, recreation, development of social support networks and use of community resources (consumer must be present).

Qualifications:

Must be 21 years of age and have a High School Diploma or GED.

Must be or have been the parent/caregiver of a child with behavioral health needs and have experience with children’s service systems (Behavioral Health, Education, Juvenile Justice, Child Protective Services, Developmental Disabilities, etc.) Must be eligible to receive and maintain DPS fingerprint clearance. Own transportation, valid driver’s license, and car insurance are required. Ability to work 40 flexible hours a week including evening and weekend availability. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, basic typing and computer processing skills. Must have skills necessary to engage and work with others from diverse cultural groups.
