Job Description

City Without Walls (cWOW) is seeking an experienced, results-oriented Executive Director to lead its gallery and program operations in Newark NJ. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in fundraising along with a passion for and understanding of the arts scene in Newark NJ. The Executive Director oversees a staff of 2 full-time employees, consultants and volunteers to accomplish the goals of the organization, develops collaborations among partners, and ensures the organization’s fiscal stability.

The Executive Director is charged with delivering on the mission and goals of the organization in a fiscally sound manner.  The Executive Director is responsible for the general and fiscal leadership and management of the entire organization, including fundraising, budgets, programs, partnerships, and external relations. This position requires an outstanding leader with exceptional communication skills, excellent proven fundraising skills, a strong public presence, and enthusiasm for making the case for the organization to a variety of donors and partners. This individual must have the ability to work with the Board to create and carry out a unified vision for the organization’s future.

The successful applicant will have a record of developing and prioritizing program objectives; achieving results in an efficient and timely manner; building partnerships with public and private entities; communicating with various audiences in both written and oral form; and demonstrating creativity, integrity, and accountability in all areas of job performance.

• 3-5 years senior-level experience in an executive or senior level position in management, development or communication.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred, advanced degree in an arts-related field a plus.
• Strong interest in and commitment to the arts, education, and community outreach in an urban setting.
• Track record of raising money from a variety of sources.
• Understanding of non-profit financial management and budgeting practices.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize, including guiding programs from conceptualization to implementation.
• Proven ability to build partnerships among not-for-profit organizations and public agencies
• Strong interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills
