Job Description

The Foundation for Jewish Camp (FJC) is a fast-growing public foundation dedicated to nonprofit Jewish resident camps. Position Summary:

The Director of Annual Giving has primary responsibility for developing and implementing strategies to increase annual giving and for ensuring that unrestricted goals are achieved. The Director of Annual Giving will work in close collaboration with the FJC Board of Directors to advance fundraising activities at FJC, including:

unrestricted gift solicitation, donor prospecting and research, stewardship, special events and direct mail. The Director of Annual Giving reports to the Vice-President, Financial Resource Development.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with, and secure financial support from individuals and foundations with an emphasis on major donors.

Develop and execute FJC’s annual fundraising plan; responsible for donor cultivation and stewardship and developing strategies to continually connect with donors on our priority lists.

Involvement in efforts to utilize lay leadership, current contacts, donor research and the resources and contacts of the board, volunteer leadership to identify, cultivate and steward potential new donors.

Arrange appropriate opportunities, in collaboration with the Vice-President, Financial Resource Development, for the CEO and Board Chair, Board members, and selected program staff to meet with prospective supporters, donors and volunteers in forums designed to engender increased interest in, and support for FJC.

Expedite donor acknowledgements and recognition.

Work with program staff to understand the scope of FJC’s programs to make a compelling case for presentation to prospective donors and craft specific giving opportunities.

Oversee the donor database (Donor Perfect) and ensure all data entry and gift processing are maintained accurately.

Plan and implement FJC development-related events as appropriate; develop follow up strategies.

Oversee preparation of annual mail appeals (2 or 3 per year).

Involvement in preparation of FJC collateral materials for FRD purposes.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

Minimum of five years of experience in development with previous experience as a solicitor of major gifts.

Previous experience working with a Board of Directors, volunteer committees and high-level donors.

Experience and comfort with the role and skills of a professional leader including the ability to develop and communicate vision, develop and execute strategy, listen, partner with others, convene groups, and motivate staff and volunteer leadership.

Strong organizational skills in setting goals, priorities and deadlines, ensuring accountability and designing and implementing multiple projects.

Very strong computer skills including data base management. Experience with Donor Perfect is a plus.

Ability to thrive in a collegial environment, relate to a diverse staff and work as a team member with senior management.

Superior oral and written communication skills.

Experience with grant-writing.

Comfort with public presentations and the role of a spokesperson.

A willingness and availability to travel.

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, certificate in fundraising or Jewish communal service or related field.

Knowledge of the Jewish community.

Prior experience with a national organization helpful.
