Director, National Grant Proposals & Initiatives

Based in New York City and in consultation with the National Development team, Division Directors and regional Development Directors, the qualified candidate will craft proposals for individuals, corporate and foundation funders; conduct research to identify foundations and other prospective funders; track proposals and manage reporting requirements; and train regional staff on seeking grant support for local initiatives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Research prospective foundation funding sources and develop grant proposals for general operating and programmatic support of ADL’s programs and operations.

Provide training and technical assistance on securing grants to development and programmatic staff throughout ADL and assist in interpreting foundation and other funding guidelines.

Utilize fee-based and free services and on-line subscriptions to understand funding trends and identify new opportunities for support.

Develop compelling proposals for submission to individuals, corporations, foundations and others.

Assemble materials and information to submit proposals. Track progress of proposals as necessary.

Coordinate ADL’s outreach to Jewish Federation Giving Programs, the Combined Federal Campaign and other workplace giving programs, soliciting through annual letters and applications to gain admission and following up appropriately with the federations.

Meet with programmatic staff to identify opportunities and provide assistance in motivating prospective donors.

Compose correspondence, proposals, and solicitations on behalf of senior management.

Other duties and responsibilities of this position as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A Bachelor’s degree plus additional related college courses or professional training.

Three to five years of proposal writing experience, preferably for foundations and corporations.

Excellent writing, editing, and research skills.

Proven track record of securing foundation support.

Strong communication skills including the ability to draft compelling arguments that are clear and concise.

Ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Good interpersonal, organizational and administrative skills.

Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office.

A knowledge of and strong commitment to Jewish issues and the objectives of the Anti-Defamation League is a plus.

Ability to work with deadlines. Some evening and weekend work to meet deadlines may be required.

Some local and overnight travel may be necessary.
