Full-Time Director of Membership

Job Description

Within public radio, WBGO is regarded as a leader for its ground-breaking work in the presentation of jazz as well as its community and volunteer involvement, special events, and collaboration with local, national and international artists. WBGO is the sole, full-time jazz broadcast station within the greater New York City market and, as such, reaches more jazz listeners in one week than any other area institution that programs jazz.

Operating as a 501(c)3 organization, WBGO is funded, in the main, by more than 17,000 members each year, and by a combination of major donor, corporate, foundation, and governmental grants. WBGO has positioned itself for a true fundraising breakthrough.

SCOPE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
WBGO seeks to increase contributed revenue, particularly in Membership. The organization will also look to this person to implement other forms of fund development currently underutilized, such as Sustainer programs. The WBGO Director of Membership will work closely with WBGO major gift team.

WBGO seeks a visionary, team-oriented Membership professional with leadership-level experience in fundraising, marketing, business development and/or Board/volunteer development who will develop and manage and implement Membership and Volunteer programs and activities including but not limited to:

– On-air fundraising;
– Direct Mail;
– Sustainer Programs:
– Membership events;
– Vendor partnerships;
– Telemarketing and other forms of solicitation;
– Customer service

Qualifications:
The successful candidate will also have these qualifications and experiences:

• Prior fundraising experience in a non-profit environment.

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in a diverse setting, administrative and management skills, writing and public speaking skills, ease at social networking, organizational and planning skills, attention to detail, and follow-through capabilities.

• A natural ease and commitment to working collaboratively and collegially with the development team and with all other parts of the organization. Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop a team of professional staff and volunteers.

• A knowledge and love of jazz.

EDUCATION:
• Bachelor’s degree is required; an advanced degree is a plus.
