DESCRIPTION

 

The National Yiddish Theatre – Folksbiene is seeking a Development Officer to oversee institutional fundraising efforts and assist with fundraising events, including the annual gala, cabaret, opening nights and other presentations. Responsibilities include researching public and private funding prospects; writing and editing proposals and reports; maintaining department files, a calendar of fundraising activities and prospect lists; preparing contributed income reports; responding to institutional donors and individuals; assisting with the annual campaign to individuals; recording and tracking individual donations and special events contributors

 

The Development Officer should work well in a collaborative environment and have strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, written and computer skills. Required: 4 to 5 years’

experience in development; knowledge of DonorPerfect a plus; knowledge of Yiddish a plus, but not required. EOE.

Founded in 1915, the National Yiddish Theatre – Folksbiene is the nation’s preeminent professional Yiddish theater and the longest continuously operating Yiddish theater in the world. Its mainstage productions, children’s productions and touring shows play to some

30,000 individuals each year. English and Russian supertitles make the Folksbiene’s award-winning Yiddish productions accessible, enjoyable and relevant for audiences of all ages and backgrounds who seek to understand the diversity, history and culture of the city. At least one show each season is in Yiddish; other shows are in English and provide an insight into the Yiddish culture and promote Jewish continuity. In 2007 the National Yiddish Theatre – Folksbiene received a special Drama Desk award “for preserving for 92 consecutive seasons the cultural legacy of Yiddish-speaking theatre in America.”
