Position Overview


American Jewish World Service (AJWS) has an exciting opportunity for an energetic, organized and responsible individual to support the development department. This is a unique opportunity to gain experience with the workings of a dynamic and fast-paced Jewish international development organization. The ideal candidate for this position will be detail oriented, able to prioritize workload and multi-task. The individual must also demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, and is expected to maintain confidentiality and exhibit discretion and professionalism in all aspects of the work.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:




Draft correspondence with donors and colleagues, track donors’ yearly giving and respond to miscellaneous donor requests; Assist with special event planning for the development department including but not limited to:

assisting with response card tracking and follow-up, tracking the expenses and budget, liaising with vendors, attending committee meeting and taking minutes, coordinate the early solicitation mailing, helping to compose and coordinate sponsorship letters, organizing the details for note card distribution; Respond to donor inquiries and update donor records; and Manage special projects as requested.



2+ years relevant work experience;

Detail-oriented and well-organized, able to manage multiple complex tasks; Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; especially across all levels of the organization; Must have a strong interest in development and fundraising; Motivated self-starter capable of working independently as well as within a team; Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills required; Flexible work style with the ability to work under tight deadlines and shifting priorities; Thrives in a fast paced environment; Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and Raiser’s Edge; Commitment to issues of global social justice and human rights and familiarity with the Jewish Community a plus; and Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required.
