Reports to: Deputy Director of Development

Location: Washington, DC or New York City

Projected Dates of Employment: mid March 2013- mid October 2013

Hours: 20 hours a week through mid September; 40 hours a week during the last two weeks of September; with more intensive hours during the Conference, September 28-October 1, 2013 in Washington, DC; then 20 hours a week through mid October

Position

J Street’s annual conference in Washington, DC brings together 2500 people for the third largest annual Jewish gathering in the US.  The Gala Dinner is an opportunity for conference attendees, elected officials and DC insiders to honor exceptional leaders, funders and peacemakers.  The goal of $700,000 supports the entire conference venture, and will be raised through a combination of individual sponsorships, gifts for honorees and, for the first time, corporate sponsorships.

We seek a consultant who will be responsible for leading the fundraising for J Street’s fourth annual national conference and Gala Dinner, with a focus on working with seven regional finance directors to secure individual and corporate sponsorships.  The consultant will also be responsible for working with Gala honorees to leverage their contact lists and keep them on relevant deadlines.  The consultant will also be responsible for coordinating all the Gala Dinner logistics, including managing the program timeline, producing a printed program book and coordinating a VIP reception.  The consultant will have support from a three-person development operations team as well as the conference planning team.

Specific duties include

Managing all fundraising efforts, coordinating with Regional Finance Directors and honorees Owning the Gala Dinner event and program Consulting on the Gala event Production/staging – conference planning team staff will own these tasks.

Managing the invitation process, including building lists and managing RSVPs Managing design of the event program and ads Managing the event program and timeline Managing the table seating – Development staff will consult Managing the VIP reception prior to the Gala Dinner – Development and Legislative staff will consult

Desired skills and characteristics

At least five years’ experience in not-for-profit development, including major gifts, corporate sponsorships and event planning.

Flexibility, ability to multi-task and lead a team, and project management experience.
