SPARC (Online) Community Manager and Innovation Communication Coordinator

The mission of this program is to accelerate innovation at our organization by providing resources and support to empower innovators in developing and testing their novel ideas, to collaborate on strategic clinical and business model innovation opportunities, and to initiate innovative cross-disciplinary projects to address unmet clinical needs.


The Innovation Acceleration Program team is currently seeking an experienced professional to serve as the SPARC (online) Community Manager and Innovation Communication Coordinator. SPARC is a virtual collaboration, social networking communication platform intended to inspire and support innovation, teamwork, and collaboration across the Hospital. This professional will both manage the SPARC community and platform as well as support the communication needs of the IAP team.


Under the direction of the Chief Innovation Officer, this individuals primary responsibilities will be to manage, maintain and grow Boston Childrens Hospitals internal social networking site (SPARC); support the communities that use SPARC; and manage the communication efforts for the IAP team.


This position requires an individual who exemplifies diligence, analytical and marketing experience, strength and compassion. The successful candidate must have superior organizational, operational and customer service skills, verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities and competing demands.

Excellent interpersonal skills and a great sense of urgency and attention to detail are crucial. The individual will be a leader, yet also effectively participate as part of a team.




1. Bachelors degree in Communications, English, Public Relations, Journalism or related field required.


2. Minimum of 1-3 years of direct hands on experience with the development, management or maintenance of community websites or social media including discussion forums required.


3. In-depth knowledge of Collaboration Platform tools or social networking techniques is necessary.


4. Knowledge of web development tools including HTML preferred.


5. Experience in marketing and communications preferred.


The IAP SPARC Community manager is responsible for the management and maintenance and growth of Boston Childrens Hospitals internal social networking site (SPARC), supporting the communities that use SPARC, and managing communication efforts for the IAP team.


Responsibilities include:


1. Coordinate the development and delivery of content for the community site including crafting and edit compelling content and support creation of new content for SPARC by others


2. Track and report on site activity, proactively develop new member engagement strategies


3. Actively seek support and build community member involvement


4. Manage the site on a daily basis


5. Act as first line technical support for SPARC users


6. Promote the usage of SPARC throughout Boston Childrens


7. Manage SPARC vendor relationship including coordination of new features and bug fixes


8. Liaise with all clinical and administrative groups that are current or potential users of SPARC


9. Coordinate internal and external communication needs of the IAP team, including updating content on internal and external website


10. Advise and help shape development of communications strategies and materials across IAP projects, programs and events


11. Maintain IAP editorial and marketing calendar to ensure deadlines are met and act as IAP liaison to MarCom department
