Full-Time Career and College Counselor/High School

Job Description

he College Counselor will join a dedicated team who educates and assists the school population through the college application process. Will communicate with students, faculty, parents and community representatives concerning college entrance and career readiness.


  • Responsible for supporting a caseload of approximately 35 seniors through all aspects of the college application process, including: brainstorming and editing college essays, completing applications, and ensuring students meet necessary deadlines
  • Meet with families in the spring of junior year to begin the formal college process
  • Write letters of recommendation to support student applications
  • Handle transcript requests from current and former students in a timely manner
  • Ability to support students and parents with FAFSA, CSS Profile, and scholarship applications
  • Present to students and parents during school hours and evening programs on topics such as overview of the college process, financial aid, SAT & ACT/understanding scores
  • Maintain relationships with admissions officers and attend professional development opportunities and conferences to stay up to date on college updates and trends
  • Assist in the organization of and attend the school’s annual college fair, as well as visits by admissions officers throughout the school year
  • Guide students in grades 9-11 through the college and career exploration process, including researching pre-college summer programs and/or internship opportunities to support their growth
  • Support Test Coordinator in organizing and implementing standardized exams into the school curriculum; support students with exam registrations by deadlines
  • Collaborate with a team of counselors to evaluate and update the college counseling program and remain knowledgeable of post-secondary opportunities
  • Handle administrative tasks required of the college office in a professional manner, and with an understanding of the confidentiality required by the position



  • Master’s Degree in School Counseling or related field
  • Minimum 3 years experience in college admissions or high school setting
  • Experience with Naviance preferred
  • Organized, Team player, public speaking skills, desire to work with high school students and willingness to communicate with parents
