Temple Ahavat Achim is located in Gloucester, Massachusetts, a beautiful seaside community on Cape Ann, 45 minutes north of Boston. Position Overview
Reporting to the President of the Board of Directors in consultation with the Rabbi, the Temple Administrator will manage the operational aspects of the synagogue. In this role, the Temple Administrator will both lead and make individual contributions to strategic planning, project execution, and administrative management of the synagogue. Additionally, they will act as ambassador for the synagogue with its members and with the larger communities in which we reside. The Temple Administrator will work in partnership with clergy, staff, lay leaders, and volunteers to help create a warm, vibrant, growing, and sacred community consistent with the congregation’s guiding principles, mission statement and bylaws.
Responsibilities & Duties
In partnership with the Board of Directors and volunteer committee chairs, the Temple Administrator will have oversight of the following areas:
* Membership – Create a welcoming environment for existing and new members, including managing membership recruitment activities. Maintain and update membership database and directory.
* Facilities – Oversee the building, inside and out, to be sure it’s always looking welcoming and orderly and clean at all times and to address as they arise, including HVAC, sound, lighting, technology, kitchen & catering, and security. Lead projects to improve the facility and the functions it provides.
* Finances – Support the Finance Committee in the development of the annual operating budget and monthly financial reporting. Monitor adherence to budget and manage dues and tuition collection.
* Fundraising – Work with the lay leadership and clergy to develop and run fundraising initiatives.
* Communication – Produce and share timely, accurate and visually-interesting communication of synagogue events with the members, the local community, and the greater Jewish community. Engage with freelance graphic designers, when necessary.
* Technology – Oversee synagogue information technology, including identifying needs and vendors to improve existing systems.
* Programming – Support the Rabbi and volunteers in developing and running religious observances (e.g, Shabbat, Pesach, Hanukkah, Purim), programs (e.g. speakers, film screenings, beach Shabbats) and lifecycle events (e.g., b’nai mitzvah and wedding celebrations, funerals). Maintain the congregational calendar, available to staff and members.
* Human Resources – Manage the administrative and support staff.
* Administration – Support the President and Board of Directors with assisting in the development of policies and ensuring compliance with laws and by-laws.
Qualifications

* Demonstrate an understanding of Jewish customs, rituals, and practice, as gleaned through prior employment or life-experience
* Possess proven leadership skills
* Be a creative problem solver with willingness to help where needed
* Have the ability to translate the mission and guiding principles of the congregation into daily interaction with all its constituencies
* Have strong and supportive managerial skills to unlock the administrative team’s potential
* Manage projects, including scope, schedule, and budget, collaboratively
* Takes initiative in managing routine activities independently
* Have strong oral and written communication skills
* Have a strong attention to detail
* Have strong skills in MS Excel or Google Sheets
* Have strong fluency in MS Office, Google Office, and Zoom
* Skilled at seeking out and learning new software programs independently
* BA/BS degree preferred
Time Commitment
This is a full-time, salaried position. The Temple Administrator is expected to manage their workload, including setting their work hours. The Temple Administrator may conduct their work with a “hybrid” schedule with consistent, posted time in the office, as approved by the President. This schedule may periodically include hours during Shabbat, Jewish holidays, key committee meetings, and events.
Salary & Benefits
The Temple Administrator’s benefits package will include paid vacation time and a combination of secular and Jewish holidays. Salary range: $60,000-$80,000 commensurate with experience.
