The Conservative Synagogue of Fifth Avenue, New York, New York is searching for an 1 year interim or full time rabbi for our synagogue.
We are a small and vibrant conservative egalitarian synagogue located in the heart of Greenwich Village, a historic neighborhood in New York City. We own our building, a charming and landmarked carriage house right off of Fifth Avenue. Our membership reflects our community: we are old and young, married with families or single, born Jewish or Jewish by choice, gay or straight, observant and not so observant. But one thing we have in common is our commitment to the Jewish people and to being part of a Jewish community.
We are a one clergy synagogue and we have a very active group of lay daveners. We are in search of a rabbi who can be a spiritual leader, can provide pastoral care to the congregation, and can take advantage of the incredibly vibrant community in which we are located in order to attract new members and develop programming which will be attractive to both our membership and the larger Jewish community.
We pride ourselves on a number of attributes: (1) we follow a traditional liturgy almost exclusively in Hebrew; (2) our members consider themselves and behave as though we are an extended family; (3) our services and events exude the warmth of our congregation; and (4) we have a dedicated lay leadership and many volunteers who give of their time and energy to not only help run the synagogue but to create stimulating and joyous events.
This congregation was begun more than 50 years ago and at this time, we have approximately 85 full dues paying members, but we welcome all, regardless of ability to pay, and many of our active participants are not "members". The synagogue is debt free and financially in good health.’
