Garden of Remembrance Memorial Park Executive Director

The Garden of Remembrance (‘GoR’), the only multi-congregation non-profit Jewish cemetery in the Washington region, is seeking a full time Executive Director.  GoR’s Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Memorial Park and ensuring that it meets the needs of those who have entrusted us with the interment of their loved ones. In this mission, the Executive Director is guided by GoR’s by-laws, Board of Directors, and the rules of the Memorial Park.

In just the last three years, GoR has added several Partner Congregations, doubled its capacity and embarked upon a number of new and exciting capital projects.   In addition to ongoing management of the Memorial Park, our new Executive Director will be responsible for overseeing the completion of these initiatives and planning future efforts.

The Executive Director is responsible for:

  • Operating the Memorial Park in a manner that appropriately identifies and fulfills family and clergy wishes and requests
  • Maintaining/building relationships with our 26 Partner Congregations and unaffiliated individuals, including the recruitment of new Partner Congregations
  • Helping the President and Board of Directors fulfill their responsibility to set policy for the Memorial Park and manage the business of the cemetery
  • Supervising, developing and evaluating a staff of 6-8 individuals.
  • Overseeing the financial operations of GoR (budget preparation/oversight, bank relations, financial reporting and the like)
  • Representing the organization before government agencies, the public and the communities GoR serves
  • Assuring compliance with laws and regulations, and with the policies and practices of Judaism’s Reform, Conservative, Orthodox and Reconstructionist movements
  • Procuring goods and services
  • Maintaining (and enhancing) GoR’s buildings and grounds

The position will involve constant communication with clergy, funeral homes, and families who have suffered a loss. The Executive Director drafts correspondence and reports.  Patience, empathy, and strong interpersonal and writing skills are required.

Knowledge of Jewish customs and experience in non-profit management are desirable but not a requirement. Salary commensurate with skills and experience. Competitive benefits package.
